Water Bill Higher than You Thought?
Residents are now receiving water bills for the months of September and October 2017. These months had very low rainfall totals compared to the substantial rainfall we saw in August. The City of Allen utility billing office has noticed a significant uptick in residential water usage that may result in water bills that are higher than many customers expected. It’s possible that the very dry period that this billing cycle covers may have stimulated additional residential landscape irrigation.
The City’s utility billing office can assist customers with billing and water use issues by providing consumption history and related information on water usage. Customers can reach the Utility Billing Division by calling 214.509.4560. As summer grasses go dormant in the cold season, we expect residential water usage to drop to more normal levels in the upcoming billing cycles. The City strongly encourages customers to suspend landscape irrigation unless weather conditions warrant sprinkler usage.
Beginning Nov. 1, 2017 Allen water and wastewater rates increased.
The City of Allen purchases water and wastewater services from the North Texas Municipal Water District and then delivers it to Allen residents. This year, the NTMWD has projected a rate increase of about 10% per year for the next five years. This NTMWD rate increase will cause residents to see an increase in their monthly bill. Beginning Nov. 1, a customer using an average of 10,000 gallons per month will see an $8.18/month increase in their utility bill for water and wastewater services. Allen residents will continue to pay a lower rate than neighbors in Frisco, McKinney, Plano and Richardson, and the rate will still be significantly lower than the state average.
