Codes and Ordinances

The City of Allen uses several documents to guide development and ensure the health and safety of its citizens. Businesses must submit all applicable permits and pay all required fees to operate legally within the City of Allen.

Code of Ordinances

Our code of ordinances outlines laws specific to the City of Allen. It provides building and business regulations, outlines requirements for professional licenses, lists fees for hazmat incidents and ambulance services and sets standards for food handling, property maintenance and employee practices.

Land Development Code

Our land development code contains rules and regulations pertaining to developing or rezoning land within the City of Allen. It includes rules guiding fences, building height, landscaping and more. This document also lays out the City's impact fees for new developments.

Building Permits

Businesses must submit all applicable permits and pay required fees to operate legally within the City of Allen. Construction is permitted between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week. View permits and contractor forms.

Fire Codes and Permits

The City of Allen has adopted the 2018 International Fire Code to guide its fire code regulations. These ordinances provide requirements for fire lanes, sprinkler systems and alarms, address visibility, access to fire hydrants and more. Sign Regulations

The Planning and Development Division oversees all sign regulations, including temporary signs (grand opening, construction, for sale), permanent (illuminated, non-illuminated, electronic) and billboards. Fill out a sign or banner application.
