Beautification Tool Trailer and Hydraulic Lift Trailers
Keep Allen Beautiful offers community groups access to two hydraulic lift trailers and one tool trailer to assist with community improvement and beautification projects. These trailers may be reserved up to two weeks in advance for a project and are reserved on a first come, first served basis. Online Tool Trailer Request Form
When a request is received, staff will review the request and respond with an email or phone call.
The Trailer Lending Agreement must be signed prior to loaning trailers to a group. This is an agreement to return the items in the same condition in which they left City property. If you are transporting a trailer, proof of insurance must be provided prior to the event.
Trailers may be put in place prior to the event and removed after the event, in which case City crew will take care of the transportation of the trailer as well as the disposal of debris loaded into the trailer.
One adult in a participating group must take responsibility for the trailer and the safety of the group in regards to the trailer use. This includes items associated with the trailer (i.e., tools, machines, hydraulics, locks, etc.).
For more information, please contact Education Specialist Josué Diaz at 214.509.4555.
NOTICE: Keep Allen Beautiful and the City of Allen are not responsible for final cleanup or disposal of any waste generated by any community improvement projects using the Tool Trailer.
Weight loads must be distributed evenly so the trailer does not track unevenly when being pulled or twist when being dumped. Loads must not overhang the sides of the trailer, but be fully contained inside the trailer.
Loads going to the landfill system must be covered. The 14’ trailer has a tarp system attached. Please assure that the tarp system is able to be deployed to cover the load. The 12’ trailer is covered by hand. Loads must not be too tall for tarps to be employed to cover the load.
The hydraulic lift trailers have a 2.5/8” ball on them. Trucks that will be used to move the trailers from one place to another during the cleanup must have a hitch to accommodate this size of ball.
If someone in your group is hauling debris or organics to the landfill system for a community project, the City’s Waste Services Division can provide a voucher that will allow you to drop the materials off at no charge to you. Please request those at least 24 hours ahead of the event from Waste Services at 214.509.4551 or City of Allen Waste Services Manager Donna Kliewer.
These items will be needed for the voucher to be issued: address of the property where the cleanup will take place, the name of the driver who will be transporting the trailer (whether a City-provided trailer or a personal trailer), what the materials are (compost or trash), and the date of the event.
There are some things that the landfill system just can’t take – chemicals for one. Any household chemicals (paint, fertilizer, oils, pool chemicals, etc.) must be picked up by a state licensed chemical handler. Never include chemicals in a load of anything.
City Ordinance bans yard trimmings from the landfill. Don’t mix organic materials (also called yard trimmings - grass, bushes, limbs) with trash.
When using the hydraulic lift trailers, only load it with yard trimmings OR trash but not both. The reason is trimmings and trash are dumped in two separate areas at the Custer Transfer Station. They either end up in the the “house,” where the trailer dumps trash on the floor and it is scooped into the transport trailer, or it ends up in the “pile,” where it is dumped on the ground to be chopped up and composted. Mixing the two can contaminate the load. Please only load it with either yard trimmings OR trash but not both.
Entire fences, fence posts with concrete, carpets larger than 6’ x 6’ rolled and tied, whole rooms of tile are not allowed at the Custer Road Transfer Station due to their weight. These must be transported to the 121 Regional Landfill in Melissa.
There is often help available for times when there may be more materials to haul than can be handled by the trailer. In some cases, CWD can pick up materials that are properly set out for residential collection as outlined in the Trash & Recycling Guidelines. A copy of the Guidelines can be found in the Tool Trailer, copies are distributed with the hydraulic lift trailers and are mailed to every Allen household in January of each year. The Guideline is your guide to having CWD’s normal collection processes work with your cleanup event.
Cleanup event statistics are important! The statistics allow us to obtain grants that help purchase items like these trailers – all three of these trailers were grant funded. The grants require that we report how they are used, what projects they support, the weights of the materials hauled and how many people participated. Please report those stats so we can continue to support these types of community projects.
